NAACUS WOMEN'S MINISTRY: NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2020

NAACUS Women Ministry (NWM) Exhortation Women in the BIble Series on the Book of Judith

Judith the Woman after God’s Heart

The book of Judith is one of the seven Deuterocanonical Apocrypha books, found only in the Catholic Bible. These books are full of natural theology which helps us better understand God by in the natural signs. These books were removed from the Protestant Bible during their 16th century reformation because they argued that they were not inspired by God. However, scholars have confirmed much of the stories in the Apocrypha books based on the Dead Sea Scroll found in 1940.

Judith rose to the occasion at a difficult time of war for Jewish people, just like our contemporary times riddled with wars, injustice, corruption, COVID19 etc. all over the world. Judith is set to strengthen our faith in Gods abiding presence among us. Lessons from the story of Judith include that the reader can be reassured to trust in God’s abiding presence and mercy while doing their best in the most difficult and terrifying times. Judith like Mary, and Esther risked their lives to deliver their people from formidable evil. Like Moses who God used to deliver Jewish people from slavery, Judith became Gods instrument to deliver Jewish people during time of war when the men failed to rise to the occasion.

The book has 16 chapters and can be divided into two major parts from chapters 1 to 7 and 8 to 16. It can be further divided into

1. Peril of the Jews- Chapter 1-7

2. Deliverance of the Jews- Chapter 8-14

3. Celebration of Victory- Chapter 14 -16

Lessons  learnt

Never allow your challenges to define you

In difficult moments first rebuild your relationship with God.

When you seek for God ,God will also seek for you

Make God your business and He will be in your business .

Trusting in God should not be conditional

Judith discovered her  beauty as a charm and charisma  in the presence of God and used it as weapon to save her people.
