Reflecting on the Heart as a Symbol of Faith

By  Sister Uju Praise

Brethren as we celebrate the season of Advent ,It will be nice to examine our hearts. The season of Avent is the Season to take stock ,and examine our lifestyle.

*THE HEART*

The heart is in a restricted place. It should be regarded as a sacred, secret or holy place (holy of holies). And also an inner sanctuary. The heart is to be  guarded with  all diligence inorder to make our lives worthy.

Proverbs 4:23 says:

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life".

Because the heart is a 'secret place' we have to always consecrate it, set it apart, being conscious and selective of what we allow to go in there. So many people go through no peace, no joy, always feeling offended. It's not because they have more problems than others but because they are not guarding or protecting their hearts which is a secret place.

Most time people see you happy. They think you have no problems, they wish they had your life but the truth is we all have issues, we all have problems in life. Honestly, bad feelings are inevitable. You may feel offended, discouraged, disappointed, unhappy at one time or the other. We can't stop this feelings but we can stop it from getting into our hearts. You can say to yourself "this person have offended me but I refuse to be offended. God is my vindicator". You can smile to yourself and say "I didn't get that promotion but am not going to sit around in self pity. I know God has something better". You can boldly say to your worries "you are not getting into my heart, you are not getting into my secret place". When you have such a good attitude towards your problems you are telling God that He is trusted, and that you are relying on Him to handle all your difficulties.

It's destructive to harbour hatred for that uncle of yours who refused to pay your school fees in the time past, you

contaminated your holy of holies (your heart) the day you decided to pay back evil to that colleague of yours that stood in your way of promotion.

David had an opportunity to kill King Saul who made life unbearable for him but he didn't and he (David) did ascend the throne didn't he?

If you allow everything that people did or said to you to enter your heart it will always remain contaminated and can stop the flow of God in your life and destiny.

Joseph is another example (read the account of Joseph in Genesis 37). Joseph went through alot in the hands of his brethren and others but he never allowed any of their offences to enter his secret place and he excelled.

Finally, we must get to a point where nothing moves us. Let's keep our inner sanctuary (the heart) pure at all times lets operate in the place of peace, hope, faith in God and He (God) will fill us with His power (spirit) and grace and finally take us to His divine throne.

God bless us all🥰🙏🏾
